The hydrogen isotopes interact with the irradiation-induced defects, and remain in the materials. Retention of hydrogen isotopes leads to a decrease in mechanical properties of materials, e.g. hydrogen embrittlement. Therefore, to study the interaction between hydrogen and defects is especially important. Positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) is a non-destructive technique for detecting vacancy type defects.
