The TBSAP consists of 6 rings each of which has 10 DOI detectors. Five out of 6 rings are used sine the detector calibration of the 5th ring has not been finished yet. Each DOI PET detector, which was originally developed for the OpenPET, consists of a 4-layer Zr-doped GSO (GSOZ) crystal array and an 8×8 array multi-anode PMT. Each crystal layer has a 16×16 array of GSOZ crystals (2.8×2.8×7.5 mm3) which yields a total crystal thickness of 30 mm. The PMT anode signals are multiplexed using a resistive network, and then digitized by the 8-bit DAQ system (Hamamatsu, Japan). The performance of the PET scanner was evaluated by using a 22Na point source (D=0.25 mm). The effects of DOI information on the radial and axial resolutions were investigated by using a Derenzo phantom. The list-mode data were reconstructed by using ordered-subset-expectation-maximization (OSEM) algorithm.\nResults: The measured spatial resolutions at the center and 30 mm radial offset were 1.52 mm, and 1.75 mm, respectively. The peak absolute sensitivity was 16.7% with an energy window of 400-600 keV. The 2.2 mm rods were resolved clearly in the Derenzo phantom study. The parallax errors in radial and axial directions can be effectively reduced with the 4-layer DOI information.\nConclusions: The prototype total-body small animal PET scanner with a 4-layer DOI detector provides a uniform spatial resolution of 1.87± 0.19 mm across the FOV and the peak sensitivity of 16.7% at the center of the FOV.
