However, given that the human body includes not only soft tissue but also air and bone, it is desirable to be able to verify the dose distribution in a human body. In the context of developing an anthropomorphic phantom dosimeter for photon therapy, there is therefore a need to improve the tissue equivalencies of Al2O3:Cr thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLDs) with a relatively high effective atomic number (11.14). For this purpose, the use of Al2O3:Cr TLDs with bulk-density control was examined by Monte Carlo simulations. Furthermore, the TL properties of several manufactured bulk-density controlled TLDs were investigated.
