To enhance public acceptance of a nuclear fusion reactor, it is appropriate to evaluate technical reliability of tritium confinement technology taking hypothetic extraordinary situations occurred in a nuclear fusion facility into consideration. Tritium technology Group of QST has paid considerable attention to the research of oxidation technology of tritium in the RTR. In most of off normal events, process gas to the recombiner is expected to be humid. Our previous research has suggested that oxidation efficiency of tritium in the RTR in which commercial noble catalyst is packed considerably drops in presence of water vapor in the process gas. In order to overcome this issue, technology of hydrophobic catalyst has successfully developed for recombiner catalyst of RTR. In this study, detritiation of a 12 m3 containment was demonstrated with a detritiation system composed of RTR and vapor absorber. The recombiner catalyst was hydrophobic platinum catalyst TKK-H1P by Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo K.K.. Initial tritium concentration in the containment was 1.0 GBq/m3. The flow rate was set to 2.4 Nm3/h. The volume of recombiner catalyst was 1000 cm3.
