The last year, we reported the communication of signaling events from carbon-ion irradiated tumor to non-irradiated normal cells. This year, we focused on biological effects induced in non-irradiated normal cells via secreate factor(s) to culture medium from the irradiated tumor cells. Human glioblastoma cell line (T98G) was irradiated with carbon-ion beams (LET=73keV/µm) scheduled to either a single dose (6Gy) or three-fraction doses (3x2Gy) during three consecutive days. The medium from the irradiated T98G cells was added to the flask inoculated on the normal human cells, and then the normal human cells were assayed for micronucleus formation, cell death and gene mutation. The medium transfer resulted in increased all biological effects in the case of both the single-dose and the fraction-dose irradiations. Especially the fraction-dose irradiation showed much higher in inducing micronucleus formation and mutation than the single-dose irradiation.
