The number of colony and spheroid formed from CSCs was remarkably reduced, and a more large number of apoptotic cells and γH2AX foci were observed after carbon ion beam combined with gemcitabine and cisplatin compared to that of X-ray or carbon ion beam alone. High dose with 35 Gy alone or with 25 Gy of relative low dose carbon ion beam combined with gemcitabine and cisplatin induced more severe xenograft tumor cell cavitation and fibrosis and significantly regressed compared to that of X-ray combined with gemcitabine and cisplatin.
