This mouse AR model was established using X-rays as both the priming and the challenge doses. As studies on AR is expected to provide important scientific basis for risk estimates, offer significant insight into the biological defense mechanisms, and lead to possible novel radiotherapy for practical application, a series of work have being done using this AR model in our lab. To date, existence of a mouse strain difference for AR induction was verified and confirmed. Recently, AR induction was found to be dependent on the radiation quality when heavy ion particles were applied to this model. Noticeably, it was shown for the first time that AR induction could relieve the late residual anhematopoiesis and delayed genotoxic effects in vivo. These findings were successively presented at the JRRS annual meetings. In the present report results on the effect of diet intake on AR induction will be addressed. C57BL/6J female mice from SLC Japan and a mouse diet MB-1 from Funabashi Farm were used. The post-weaning mice were either allowed to access freely the diet or given with a reduced amount of diet throughout the study. The priming dose and the challenge dose, both from X-rays, were delivered at a postnatal age of 6 and 8 weeks respectively. Thirty-day survival and residual damage in the hematopoietic system in the surviving animals were studied. Results showed that diet intake could play a pivotal role in the AR induction.
