Methods:\nOne hundred forty-six cases that underwent MET-PET/CT study prior to CIRT were\nprospectively investigated. One hundred thirty-one cases of them also underwent\nsecond MET-PET/CT study three months following the completion of CIRT. MET\naccumulation of the tumor was evaluated using the semiquantitative tumor to\nnormal tissue ratio (TNR). A univariate and multivariate analysis were carried out\nregarding TNR of the tumor as well as several other clinical factors (age, gender,\nand tumor size). Results: The average TNR prior to treatment and TNR following\ntreatment was 3.8 (2.0) and 2.6 (1.2), respectively, showing a significant decline\nin the TNR following treatment. Upon univariate analysis, a high TNR prior to\ntreatment was a significant factor for occurrence of local recurrence, metastasis\nand disease-specific survival. Cut-off values were 4.85 (p=0.006), 2.70 (p=0.02) and\n4.51 (p=0.002), respectively. A high TNR following treatment was a significant\nfactor for occurrence of local recurrence (Cut-off value=3.10, p=0.003). In the\noutcome of multivariate analysis, TNR prior to treatment and age were significant\nfactors influencing the occurrence of metastasis. Regarding disease-specific\nsurvival, TNR prior to treatment was the factor with significant influence. TNR\nfollowing treatment was the factor significantly influencing local recurrence. That is\nto say, TNR prior to treatment was a significant factor for metastasis and disease-\nspecific survival upon both univariate analysis and multivariate analysis. In the\nsame manner, TNR following treatment was a significant factor regarding local\nrecurrence in both analyses. Conclusion: MET accumulation measured by PET/CT\nwas a factor significantly related to the occurrence of local recurrence and\nmetastasis as well as early prognosis regarding CIRT for primary
