A NOBIAS CHELATE resin was evaluated for its ability of Th separation and preconcentration from water samples. We measured concentrations of Th in the eluted samples by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (Yokogawa, Agilent 7500c). The NOBIAS CHELATE resin could completely recover Th at a pH range of 2-5 from Th spiked purified water samples. Then we used spiked seawater samples after adjusting their pH to 2.5 with hydrochloric acid; More than 95% recovery of Th was observed. Total procedural blank for Th was 0.02 ng/L using 50 mL of purified water (10-fold preconcentration, n = 3). The detection limits, defined as 3 times the standard deviation for the procedural blank, was 0.06 ng/L. Thus Th in seawater samples could be measured by the proposed method., International Workshop on Low-level Measurement of Radionuclides and Its Application to Earth and Environmental Sciences}, title = {Application of NOBIAS CHELATE resin for thorium separation from seawater}, year = {2009} }
