However, the identification of rhizomorphs in the absence of basidiomata is extremely difficult. Several anatomical studies of ectomycorrhizas, which often include information on rhizomorph structure have made possible the identification of many fungal symbionts in the absence of fruiting structures. On the other hands, descriptions of rhizomorph structure are available for only a few saprotrophic fungi. Although many saprotrophic fungi belong to the family Tricholomataceae, morphological characters for the identification of rhizomorphs of this family have been poorly documented. Therefore, detailed structure of mature rhizomorphs produced by Melanoleuca verrucipes (Fr.) Singer have been examined with light and scanning electron microscopy. We also examined the ecological relationship between M. verrucipes cystidia on its "peripheral" hyphae and two Collembola species and two unidentified species of enchytraeids., 5th Asian Mycological Congress}, title = {Rhizomorph structure of Melanoleuca verrucipes and its ecological influence on the behaviour of Collembola and enchytraeids}, year = {2007} }
