It is also known that p-hydroquinones show an efficient radical-scavenging activity as in the case of vitamin E. We herein report the effect of a metal ion on the radical-scavenging rates of substituted p-hydroquinones. Methylated phytylhydroquinones and simple substituted p-hydroquinones showed an efficient scavenging activity of 2,2-diphyenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical in deaerated ethanol (EtOH) at 298 K. From the spectral change are determined the DPPH radical-scavenging rate constants of the hydroquinones in deaerated EtOH by using the stopped-flow technique. No effect of magnesium ion on the scavenging rates was observed for the simple p-hydroquinones, suggesting that the DPPH radical-scavenging reaction proceeds via a one-step hydrogen-atom transfer rather than via a proton-coupled electron transfer., 第18回金属の関与する生体関連反応シンポジウム}, title = {ヒドロキノン類によるラジカル消去速度に及ぼす金属イオンの効果}, year = {2008} }
