The experiment was performed with a 2-TW Ti:sapphire laser system which delivers an energy of 100 mJ in a pulse duration of 50 fs. The laser beam was focused on a surface of a nitrogen gas jet at the intensity of 5 1018 W cm-2. At the electron density of 1020 cm-3, the electron energy spectra have Boltzman-like distribution with an effective temperature of 4 MeV. The maximum electron energy and the total charge of electrons above 1MeV were 30 MeV and 10 pC, respectively. The maximum electron energy and the total charge become higher, as the electron density become higher. We also observed the spectrum which had a hump at 6 MeV in addition to the Boltzman-like distribution, when the electron density was 1020 cm-3., 31st European Physical Society Conference on Plasma Physics}, title = {Electron acceleration in a plasma produced from a dense gas jet irradiated by an intense laser pulse}, year = {2004} }
