The serious damages on cooling systems of nuclear reactors were induced by the earthquake and the tsunami and then a significant amount of radioactive fission products was released into the environment. The severity of the accidents was estimated to INES 7 level. \nThe Japanese government, local governments in Fukushima Prefecture and related bodies such as NIRS have struggled against the difficult situations. Also, some of medical physicists were involved in support for evacuation and inspection of radioactive contamination and so on. \nHealth risk assessment requires the estimation of radiation doses delivered to populations. The radiation doses need to be estimated on the good data and a sound methodology in an appropriate way. Some medical physicist has contributed much effort to such task for the dose estimation in cooperation with the health management survey program in Fukushima Prefecture. Residents affected by the accidents fear the effect of low dose radiation excessively. Some of them think of refusal to be exposed to X-ray in a hospital. Regarding the effect of ionizing radiation, the risk communication to the public is quite important and then medical physicists have been expected to carry out an important role as experts. Then, JSMP, NIRS and related bodies have opened the FAQ website and carried out lectures. \nThis presentation will outline the activities of Japanese medical physicists for the accidents of Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, based on the results of the Japan Society of Medical Physics (JSMP) survey of Medical Physicists, which was carried out one year after the accident., 12th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (12th AOCMP)}, title = {The medical physicists' activities for the accidents of Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan}, year = {2012} }
