A priori information of the spatial sensitivity profiles of source-detector pairs can improve the accuracy of the image reconstruction of the diffuse optical topography. The head model of which anatomical structure is based on magnetic resonance images of the head was constructed to predict the spatial sensitivity profile of source-detector pairs. The pulse sequences which can acquire adequate magnetic resonance images to segment different types of tissues in the head were chosen for the fast and semi-automatic construction. Light propagation in the head model was predicted by Monte Carlo simulation to estimate the spatial sensitivity profiles in the brain.
