IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical need in support of optimal patient care. IHE defines many Integration Profiles. Integration Profile describes use cases, actors and transactions. There are many problems in hospital information systems. To solve these problems IHE defines the usage of standards and does not develop standards, to analysis and define the clinical workflow and to perform a connection testing (Connectathon). Now IHE is expanding to worldwide. Profit of the IHE in installing HIS is obvious. But the merit of the IHE is limiting. Users can easily refer the IHE technical framework as the Request For Proposal. When we introduce a multi-vender IHE system, the IHE system demand cost than a single-vender system? Because of the lack of experiences, we will have to pay many efforts. Standardization is very important. So we are promoting the IHE concept for the Japanese hospitals and clinics. At first, IHE technical framework was developed from the radiology domain. But now technical framework expands to many domains such as laboratory, cardiology, radiation oncology and so on. IHE has a power to cover the hospital information system and will become powerful tool to cooperate between hospitals. IHE is best solution to deal with the problem in clinical workflow. By using IHE integration profiles, IHE can improve in clinical workflow by promoting the Information Communication Technology., CARS2011 ( 25rd International Congress and Exhibition )}, title = {IHE activity in Japan - Coordination between systems and standardization -}, year = {2011} }
