The total number of patients treated was 5,196 as of February 2010. The impressive advance of carbon-ion therapy using HIMAC has been supported by high-reliability operation and by the development of accelerator technology. Based on more than ten years of experience with HIMAC, we have proposed a new treatment facility for the further development of therapy with HIMAC. The new facility, as an extension of the existing one, has been designed, and the related R&D work has been carried out. The building of the new treatment facility was already completed in March 2010, and the 1st treatment is scheduled in March 2011.
