Especially, exposure of radiation at a low dose and long period is a serious to human germ cells, because the damage will transmit to our descendant. The best way to examine the space radiation effect is to launch laboratory animal in space. However, it is difficult to launch and to breed the mammals in space. So, we come to think usage of the mouse embryonic stem cell (ES cell) as alternative. The freezing mouse ES cell will be preserved in the freezer (MELFI) of kibou in ISS for a long time. After retrieving the frozen cells to the ground, we microinject the ES cells to normal eight cell embryos. Then, we can examine the early development of the embryos in vitro to the blastocyst stage.\n We irradiated the mouse ES cells with the iron ion beam (500 MeV/u) by using the accelerator HIMAC in Chiba, and microinjected the cells to embryos. During their culture in vitro, we found that the mouse early development was impaired depending on the dose of Fe ion irradiation. In unirradiated condition, more than 70% of the injected embryos developed to normal blastocyst, but after 5 Gy of Fe ion irradiation, 42% of them became blastocyst. Some of the embryos arrested at the morula stage and some were degenerated.
