After 3.5 days from the irradiation, a-GalCer was locally injected into the primary tumor. In a group of mice irradiated with gamma-rays, the combination therapy reduced lung metastases, but was not statistically significant. On the other hand, carbon-ions suppressed lung metastasis strongly by itself, so additive effects of combination therapy was not observed. Then, we performed the experiments with less doses, such as 4 or 6 Gy of carbon-ions. We modified the immunotherapy as followings. GalCer pulsed dendritic cells (DCs) were administered as combined therapy.
