Asynchronous cells were\nirradiated with X-rays, carbon ion beam (LET is\nabout 30 keV/um and 85 keV/um), Si ion beam (220\nkeV/um) and Fe ion beam (440 keV/um) at room\ntemperature. The amount of gamma-H2AX monitored by\nflow cytometry increased just after irradiation of each\nradiation and reached maximum around 30 min. It\nwas then decreased quickly for cells irradiated with\nX-rays but presented longer for Si or Fe beams.\nAverage amount of gamma-H2AX per cells at 30 min after\nirradiation increased with dose for all radiations\ntested and was similar between Si and Fe beams and\nwas bigger than X-rays. Under the confocal\nmicroscopy, foci of gamma-H2AX on cell nucleus was not\nvisible just after X-irradiation, but obvious after Fe\nion irradiation. Number of foci per nucleus was\nincreased with increasing dose at 30 min after\nirradiation similarly for all radiation tested.
