Investigations are to verify 1) if\nthe known X-ray-induced adaptive response could reduce any heavy-ion-induced\ndetrimental effects such as death or malformation, 2) if the heavy ion\nirradiation at certain low dose could induce any adaptive response against\nthe detrimental effects induced by high dose of X-irradiations, and 3) if\nthe heavy-ion irradiation at certain low dose could induce any adaptive\nresponse against the detrimental effects induced by high dose of heavy ion\nirradiations. Three kinds of accelerated heavy ions are to be examined, 1)\ncarbon (290MeV/u) mono beams with a linear energy transfer (LET) value of\nabout 15 keV/mm, silicon (490MeV/u) mono beams with a LET value of about 55\nkeV/mm and ion (500MeV/u) mono beams with a LET value of about 200 keV/mm.\nAt the beginning of this work in the latter half of the fiscal year 2007, we\nsearched for the suitable challenging dose for either the fetal mice or the\nadult mice. In the first half of the fiscal year 2008, it will be the tasks\nto test if the priming low dose X-irradiations could induce any protective\neffect against the detrimental effects from the high LET heavy-ion\nchallenging irradiations. In the latter half of the fiscal year 2008, we\nwill try to check if the priming heavy-ion irradiations at certain low doses\ncould induce any protective effect against the detrimental effects from the\nhigh dose challenging X-irradiations. In the fiscal year 2009, both priming\nand challenging doses will be performed using heavy-ion irradiations, and we\nwould expect an answer to the raised question \"Does Radioadaptive Response\nAlso Apply to the Case of Heavy-ion Irradiations in Fetal and Adult Mice?\"\nand find some evidential clue to the mechanisms underlying these phenomena.\nThe work on searching for the suitable challenging dose for the in utero\nexperiment is finished while the work is undergoing for the in vivo\nexperiment.
