This new treatment facility will be equipped with a three-dimensional irradiation system with pencil beam scanning. For the high-accuracy treatment of moving tumors , the most important criterion for the design study is how to realize this goal by scanning irradiation. For this purpose, we have studied a combination of the rescanning technique and the gated irradiation method. In order to avoid hot and/or cold spots even by a relatively larger number of rescans within an acceptable irradiation time, we studied a fast scanning system. Further, this concept was experimentally demonstrated at the HIMAC.
