One of major concern about heavy particles is its carcinogenic potential. However, the data are still scanty. We investigated the induction and cellular and molecular characteristics of thymic lymphomas (TLs) of B6C3F1 mice after exposure to carbon-ions and X-rays. The incidence of and latent period for the induction of TLs were similar between two types of TLs, although the size was much smaller for carbon-ion-induced TLs. FACS analysis revealed little difference in the surface expression of T-cell differentiation antigens. Molecular analysis indicated that high frequency of loss of heterzygosity (LOH) was found on chromosomes 4, 11, 12 and 19 in both TLs. However, the frequency was much higher in chromosome 11 and smaller in chromosome 12 in carbon-ion-induced TLs compared to X-ray-induced TLs. These results suggest mechanistic differences between carbon-ion- and X-ray-induced lymphomagenesis., 平成14年度放射線医学総合研究所重粒子線がん治療装置等共同利用研究発表会}, title = {重粒子による胸腺リンパ腫の発症とそのメカニズムの分子生物学的研究}, year = {2003} }
