Both of the fields showed many epoch-making discoveries and remarkable progress, however the relation of both fields is not so deep-rooted. Radiotherapy has been established as a highly effective modality used in the local control of a tumor, however it is not enough in respect of control of metastasis. Several papers have reported that photon beam irradiation enhanced metastatic processes of tumor cells and carbon-ion beam has been shown to be more effective than photons for suppression of metastasis as well as cell killing. Although the reports about radiation research to tumor metastasis are increasing, the molecular mechanism and the combined therapy to control the metastasis is insufficient. In this overview, we describe the difference in the effect to metastasis between X-rays and carbon beams, and possibility of radiotherapy aiming at metastasis suppression combined with the radioimmunotherapy or the treatment to release the hypoxic region in tumors.}, pages = {141--148}, title = {放射線治療に資するがん転移研究ーオーバービューー}, volume = {59}, year = {2013} }
