The study focused on the\npossible health effects from low level of tritium exposures and covered many\naspects including metabolism, dosimetry, genetic damage, embryonic effects,\npostnatal development and neurobehavoiral changes after exposure to\ntritiated water (HTO) in vivo, and effects of tritium exposure from HTO or\norganically bound tritium compounds (OBT) on cellular proliferation and\ndifferentiation, Ca++ conductance, cell cycle, p53 expression, and apoptosis\ninduction in neurons in vitro. Total 55 biological endpoints were used. The\ngenetic risk, teratogenetic threshold, and relative biological effectiveness\n(RBE) for beta-rays from tritium to gamma or X-rays were estimated. These\nstudies provide an indication of magnitude of biological effects and\nindicate a range of values of tritium RBE. Most of the data had been\npublished so far only in Chinese language journals.
