Many anti-tumor drugs are substrates of OATPs and accumulating evidences in recent years have shown that OATPs distribute differently in tumor cells and/or tissues. Therefore, OATPs, especially the ones that are able to transport anti-tumor drugs, have been proposed to serve as novel therapeutics targets for future drug discovery. Our previous study revealed that X-ray irradiation can increase expression level of OATP family member OATP1A2 in breast cancer cells MCF7 and the combined treatment of X-ray together with OATP1A2 substrate methotrexate exerted a more significant effect on growth rate and cell death compared with irradiation or MTX treatment alone.
