The LETs of heavy ions ranged from 20 to 300 keV/um. dG in aqueous solution was irradiated under air-saturated or hypoxic condition. Under the air-saturated condition, the yield of 8-OHdG decreased with increasing LET. The decreasing rate nearly paralleled with the decrease in G value of OH-radical production. On the other hand, under the hypoxic condition, the decreasing rate of 8-OH-dG yield with increasing LET was significantly lower than that obtained under the air-saturated condition. These results are consistent with the hypothesis of "oxygen-in-the-track model" previously proposed by Baverstock and others.
