Heavy ion radiation therapy has attracted attention as an effective modality for cancer therapy because of its highly lethal effects, but the effects of heavy ion irradiation on angiogenesis have not been reported. Angiogenesis is not only a prerequisite for tumor growth and expression but also a major factor affecting the metastatic spread of malignant cells. In vivo, angiogenesis was inhibited by carbon ion irradiation in the dorsal air sac (DAS) model. In vitro, capillary-like tube structures in 3-D culture were destroyed after carbon ion irradiation concomitant with the inhibition of cell motility, migration, invasiveness, and proliferation. These data suggest that heavy ion could inhibit angiogenesis, thus leading to inhibition of tumor growth and metastasis.}, pages = {53--54}, title = {重粒子線によるがんの転移課程に及ぼす影響}, volume = {2002}, year = {2003} }
