We found that (i) there was no significant difference in sensitivity to high LET radiation of above 30 KeV/um between SAS/neo and SAS/mp53 cells, although the radiosensitivity of SAS/neo cells against X-rays was higher (1.2-fold) than that of SAS/mp53 cells; (ii) there was an interactive thermal enhancement of radiosensitivity to below 70 KeV/um in SAS/neo cells, although only additive thermal enhancement of them was observed in SAS/mp53 cells through all LET levels examined; (iii) low-LET radiation induced apoptosis only in SAS/neo cells; (iv) high-LET radiation at an iso-survival dose induced apoptosis of SAS/neo cells at a high frequency compared with that with low-LET radiation; (v) high-LET radiation induced p53-independent apoptosis in SAS/mp53 cells; (vi) thermal enhancement of cellular sensitivity against X-ray was due to induction of the p53-dependent apoptosis. Our findings suggest that thermal enhancement of radiosensitivity may be resulted in p53-dependent apoptosis instead of inhibition of p53-dependent cell survival system(s) through either regulation of the cell cycle or induction of DNA repair.}, pages = {49--50}, title = {癌関連遺伝子からみた重粒子線治療の基礎的研究}, volume = {2002}, year = {2002} }
