Of these, AsA (5 mM) appeared to be the most promising in that it reduced mutant yields without affecting survival. NAC and RibCys also showed promise. The maximum reduction in mutant yield with the protocols used for AsA was about 50%. Asa effectively reduced mutation even when added after irradiation.
