Therefore, Se is an important pollutant for radioactive waste management. Recently, some researchers have studied Se sorption onto many types of soils and reported that soil organic matter has significant effect on Se sorption onto soil. However, no study has been carried out for Se sorbability onto soil organic matter. In this study, Se sorption behavior on humic acid (HA), which is one of the soil organic matters, was investigated as a function of initial Se concentration and solid/liquid ratio. \nA batch sorption test using 75Se was carried out to obtain the data of Se sorption behavior on HA, while changing initial Se concentration (10 - 300 µg/L) and solid/liquid ratio (0.01 - 0.1). In order to determine the time required to reach the sorption equilibrium, the sample suspensions were destructively taken at several times from three hours to twenty five days after the addition of Se in HA suspensions. Each sample suspension was filtered through a 0.45-µm membrane filter. Gamma rays of 75Se in the filtrate were measured with a NaI scintillation counter to determine its activity concentration.\n The amount of sorbed Se increased linearly with increasing initial Se concentration. In addition, the amount of sorbed Se decreased exponentially with increasing solid/liquid ratio. With these empirical relationships, the empirical equation of the amount of sorbed Se as a function of initial Se concentration and solid/liquid ratio could be determined.
