Carbon ion therapy offers the potential advantages of improved dose localization and enhanced biological effect. Tumor sites includes head and neck, brasin, lung, liver, prostate, uterine, bone and soft tissue and other locally advanced, unresectable tumors. Phase I/II and II studies are underway in each tumor with carbon ions. The results have shown that carbon ion therapy has potential ability to provide a sufficient dose to the tumor with acceptable morbidity in the surrounding normal tissues. Tumors that appear to respond favorably to carbon ions include locally addvanced tumors or those with non-squamous histology such as adenocarcinoma. This present discusses the experience in using carbon charged particles in treating 18 patients with pancreas carcinoma as preoperative radiation therapy and 10 patients with pelvic recurrence of rectal cancer at NIRS between 1999 and2001. Our results clearly suggests the usefulness of heavy ion radiotherapy in the treatment of pancreas carcinoma and rectal cancer compared to conventional photon radiotherapy.}, pages = {35--38}, publisher = {実業公報社}, title = {消化器癌}, year = {2003} }
