This new\ngantry consists of three combined-function superconductingmagnets\nhaving a bending angle of 90 degrees. The dipole field of\nthe superconducting magnets is set to be Bmax=5.02 Tesla,\ncorresponding to a bending radius of 1.32 m for transporting\ncarbon ions having kinetic energy of 430 MeV/u. The\nsuperconducting magnet also has three independent superconducting\nquadrupole-coils, which are to be winded inside of the\ndipole coil for beam focusing. The dipole and quadrupole coils\nare electrically isolated in the magnet, and connected to\nindependent power supplies, so that each field component can be\nindependently excited. Having used the combined-function\nsuperconducting magnets, the size of the rotating gantry would\nbecome very compact; the length and radius are 5.1 m and 4.0 m,\nrespectively. The magnetic field distributions of the superconducting\nmagnets were calculated with a three-dimensional\nelectromagnetic field solver, Opera-3d code. With calculated\nfields, the superconducting coils were designed, so as to obtain\nuniform field distributions.
