However, the exact neural mechanism that integrates these variables for the computation of motivational value remains unclear. Besides, the signal of physiological needs, which serves as the primary\ninternal variable for this computation, remains to be identified. Concerning fluid rewards, the osmolality level, one of the physiological indices for the level of thirst, may be an internal variable for valuation, since an increase in\nthe osmolality level induces drinking behavior. Here, to examine the relationship between osmolality and the motivational value of a water reward, we repeatedly\nmeasured the blood osmolality level, while 2 monkeys continuously performed an instrumental task until they spontaneously stopped. We found that, as the total amount of water earned increased, the osmolality level progressively decreased (i.e., the hydration level increased) in an individual-dependent manner. There was a significant negative correlation between the error rate of the task (the\nproportion of trials with low motivation) and the osmolality level. We also found that the increase in the error rate with reward accumulation can be well explained by a formula describing the changes in the osmolality level. These results provide a biologically supported computational formula for the motivational value of a water reward that depends on the hydration level, enabling us to identify the neural mechanism that integrates internal and external variables.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_8_relation_13":{"attribute_name":"PubMed番号","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"22411583","subitem_relation_type_select":"PMID"}}]},"item_8_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0014-4819","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"metadata only access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cb"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Minamimoto, Takafumi"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"473326","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Yamada, Hiroshi"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"473327","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Hori, Yukiko"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"473328","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Suhara, Tetsuya"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"473329","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"南本 敬史","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"473330","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"堀 由紀子","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"473331","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"須原 哲也","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"473332","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Hydration level is an internal variable for computing motivation to obtain water rewards in monkeys","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Hydration level is an internal variable for computing motivation to obtain water rewards in monkeys"}]},"item_type_id":"8","owner":"1","path":["1"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2015-10-22"},"publish_date":"2015-10-22","publish_status":"0","recid":"47316","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Hydration level is an internal variable for computing motivation to obtain water rewards in monkeys"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-05-15T23:41:14.184049+00:00"}
