The novelty of\nthe proposed technique is that it measures the translation and\ndeformation of a local tissue region based on the displacements\nof a set of vessels of interest instead of the entire organ. The\nposition of the target point was estimated from the relative positions\nof the center-of-masses of the vessels, assuming that the\ntopological relationship between the target point and center-ofmasses\nis unchanged during breathing. To reduce inaccuracy\ndue to the delay between vessel image acquisition and sonication,\nthe near-future target position was predicted based on the\nvessel displacements in the images extracted from an image\nlibrary acquired before the tracking stage. Experiments on\nhealthy volunteers demonstrated that regardless of the respiratory\ncondition, appropriate combinations of three center-ofmasses\nfrom the vessels situated around the target-tissue position\nyielded an estimation error of less than 2 mm, which was\nsignificantly smaller than that obtained when using a single center-\nof-mass trio.
