Spores of wild-type B. subtilis strain 168, a mutant lacking -type SASP, (encoded by sspA sspB), and six DNA repair-deficient (polA, recA, splB, ykoU, ykoV and ykoU ykoV) strains were exposed to X-rays and the three kinds of heavy ions [the so-called high energy charged (HZE) particles] in a linear energy transfer (LET) range of 2 to 200 keV/µm. The sporicidal effectiveness increased in the order X-rays < Helium < Argon < Iron irradiation. NHEJ-mutant spores deficient in ykoU (an ATP-dependent DNA ligase), ykoV (a Ku-like DNA-binding protein), the double mutant strain ykoU ykoV and the -type SASP-deficient spores were significantly more sensitive to HZE particle bombardment and X-ray irradiation compared to the recA, polA, splB and wild-type spores. These results indicate that NHEJ provides an efficient pathway during spore germination for repair of DNA double-strand breaks induced by HZE particles. In addition, the loss of the -type SASP leads to a significant radiosensitivity to ionizing radiation, implicating the essential function of these spore proteins as protectants of spore DNA to ionizing radiation and heavy particle damage, in addition to their known roles in UV, heat and peroxide stress protection.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_8_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0021-9193","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"metadata only access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cb"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Moeller, Ralf"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447726","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Setlow, Peter"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447727","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Horneck, Gerda"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447728","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Berger, Thomas"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447729","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Reitz, Gunther"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447730","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Rettberg, Petra"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447731","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"J., Doherty Aidan"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447732","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Okayasu, Ryuichi"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447733","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"L, Nicholson Wayne"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447734","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Moeller Ralf","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447735","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Berger Thomas","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447736","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Reitz Gunther","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447737","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"岡安 隆一","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"447738","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Role of the major, small, acid-soluble spore proteins and spore-specific and universal DNA repair mechanisms in resistance of Bacillus subtilis spores to ionizing radiation from X rays and high energy charged-particle bombardment","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Role of the major, small, acid-soluble spore proteins and spore-specific and universal DNA repair mechanisms in resistance of Bacillus subtilis spores to ionizing radiation from X rays and high energy charged-particle bombardment"}]},"item_type_id":"8","owner":"1","path":["1"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2008-02-05"},"publish_date":"2008-02-05","publish_status":"0","recid":"45090","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Role of the major, small, acid-soluble spore proteins and spore-specific and universal DNA repair mechanisms in resistance of Bacillus subtilis spores to ionizing radiation from X rays and high energy charged-particle bombardment"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-05-16T00:07:49.224905+00:00"}
