Here we found that continuous\nirradiation with low dose-rate gamma-rays ameliorated type II diabetes in db/db mice, diabeticmice lacking leptin receptors. Whole body exposure of db/db mice to low dose-rate gamma-irradiation improved glucose clearance without affecting response to insulin. Histological study suggested that degeneration of pancreatic islets was significantlysuppressed by the irradiation. Insulin secretion in response to glucose loading wassignificantly increased in the irradiated mice.
