内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Cesium (Cs) is an alkali metal that is widely present in natural environment, including soil, and is also found in foods. Cs is one of the nuclides that causes internal exposure in a nuclear disaster. The information on Cs retention and deposition in the small intestine at oral intake is useful for the accurate evaluation of dosimetry, but the dynamics of Cs distribution in the small intestine is not well understood. Synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SR-XRF) with a microprobe is expected to provide the Cs imaging corresponding to the fine structure of the tissues. In this study, intestinal distribution of Cs was examined in mice administered Cs by combining regional fractionation and SR-XRF imaging of the small intestine.Eight-week-old male mice were fasted for 16 hours and administered a single oral injection of Cs (5 mg/kg). At 2 h after administration, four regions of the small intestine (the upper, middle, and lower jejunum and the ileum) were sampled and the Cs concentration in each region was determined by ICP-MS. The Cs concentration was highest in the upper jejunum and decreased toward the downstream portion. Wide-field SR-XRF imaging of a long-axis section of the small intestine with a spatial resolution of 100 micron squares showed that Cs was distributed from the base of the villi to the tip. Detailed imaging of the villi with a spatial resolution of 10 micron squares showed that the Cs was more abundant in the interior than on the surface. The present method would be useful for analyzing the dynamics of Cs distribution in the small intestine.
