This paper presents recent design updates of the ITER Blanket Remote handling system (BRHS). The aim of the updates was both to achieve the accommodation to recently identified in-vessel environment and establishment of modification of rail deployment scheme. The design change of the BRHS to fully convert the structural member from carbon steels to stainless steels are performed, which was necessitated by the corrosion risk due to radiolysis enhanced corrosion by the combination of gamma ray and in-vessel humidity. The changes of the rail deployment configuration from full circular rail to partial rails, and that of rail connection method from in-cask rail connection to in-vessel rail connection are described. |
