内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Poly(allyl diglycol carbonate) (PADC) has been known as the most sensitive Etched Track Detector (ETD). The creation mechanism of latent tracks in PADC has been examined using FT-IR spectrometry. Based on experiments using low Linear Energy Transfer (LET) radiations (e.g., Soft X-ray, gamma ray and electron beam), the number of electrons interacting with a certain single repeat unit of PADC, is recognized as the most important variable for elucidating the creation mechanism of latent tracks.
In the present study, electron stimulated desorption via Time of Flight mass spectrometry is employed to clarify the degradation processes induced by Low-Energy Electrons (LEEs: energies < 30 eV), similar to those are produced in large numbers along radiation tracks. The experiments are performed with physiosorbed thin films of PADC surrogate molecules diethylene glycol monoethyl ether acetate (DGMEA) and propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA) as represented in Fig. 1(a) and (b). During extended irradiation of DGMEA films with LEEs at 30 eV, the desorption yield of all anions decrease with an increasing number incident electrons (i.e., fluence), except for O- that increases monotonically with fluence (Figure 2). A similar trend is observed for PGMEA. These findings imply that the loss of carbonyl groups occurs after damage to other oxygen containing groups in the same molecule. The present result are complementary to data required for Monte Carlo simulation code such as Geant4 and helps defining absolute cross sections for organic molecules.
