However, we must overcome a problem of the construction cost to popularize the heavy-ion radiotherapy. Therefore, we are proceeding with studies to realize more compact facilities for the radiotherapy. \nIn these studies, the length of an irradiation port is required to scale down to half of that in HIMAC. However, the wobbler-scatterer system which is used in HIMAC at present, can not be directly applicable because the residual range would be severely reduced by thicker scatterer required for the short irradiation port. Therefore, an amplitude modulation wobbler system with a thin scatterer has been studied to overcome the problem. Especially, we have proposed the spiral-wobbler system which produces circular irradiation fields up to 22 cm in diameter using a fixed beam size of ~25 mm. This system also has advantages of its simple design and high efficiency of beam use as compared with the conventional wobbler-scatterer system.\nIn this meeting, we report about the beam characteristics by the spiral-wobber system with experimental studies.
