Characteristic symptoms of tauopathies are known to be associated with regional distribution of fibrillary tau lesions. In-vivo tau imaging would accordingly facilitate precise clinical diagnosis of tauopathies and objective staging of the disease in living patients on a neuropathological basis. At this time, there has been no confirmation of an imaging agent which is suitable for tau inclusions not only for AD but also non-AD tauopathies by positron emission tomography (PET).
