"燃料電池自動車などに用いられている固体高分子形燃料電池では、炭素担体上の白金(Pt)ナノ粒子が電極触媒として用いられているが、Pt使用量が高コスト化の要因であるため、触媒性能を向上させて使用量を低減させる必要がある。我々のグループでは、イオン照射による炭素担体への欠陥導入によって、Ptナノ粒子触媒の触媒性能が大きく向上することを報告してきた。触媒性能向上のメカニズムを解明するために、Ptナノ粒子と炭素担体界面の炭素吸収端スペクトル測定を行った。炭素担体への欠陥導入によって炭素とPtナノ粒子の界面電子状態が大きく変化していることを世界に先駆けて発見し、欠陥導入によるPtナノ粒子と担体との相互作用の変化が触媒の高性能化の起源であることを示した。",
