Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster forced the evacuation of a large number of residents and created changes in the lifestyle of the evacuees. These changes caused limited physical activity and stressful environment and increased the risk of many kind of disease. Radiation induced cancer risk is considered really small but many people worry about it, especially to children. Hence, it is important to establish a new prevention method for children’s stress and radiation effects. Environmental enrichment (EE) provides positive physical and psychological stress. EE has been mainly reported to activate the central nervous, immune and endocrine systems. However, whether EE modifies the intestinal response after radiation exposure is unknown. In this study, we analyzed the modifying effects of EE against stressful events and radiation induced apoptosis in the mice.
