Abstract
Because appropriate irradiation angle combination for prostate cancer patients treated with carbon-ion radiotherapy has not been evaluated, we carried out the treatment planning simulation using 6 angle combinations in 5 cases prior to initiation of 4-fractionated clinical trial. Statistical analyses revealed that the averages of dose-volume histogram parameters for femoral head in the angle combination of 90 and 270 degrees had strong tendency of high dose irradiation compared with other angle combinations. These results suggest that the 0, 90 and 270 degrees which are the second most simple angle combination in this study can be used without serious problem for the 4-fractionated carbon-ion radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
