The purpose of this study to analyze the effectiveness of Gore-Tex TR membrane to protect intestine from radiation. Thirty-four patients with pelvic tumors were used with Gore-Tex sheet. Twenty-eight patients could enter carbon ion radiotherapy within 30 days. Two patients had adhesive subileuses after operation, and they were given the conservative treatments. No grade 3 and 5 acute toxicity was observed. There were relatively few and mild toxicities in these patients. Gore-Tex is a safe and effective implant material to prevent intestinal damages from carbon ion radiation in successful treatment of pelvic tumors. We evaluated the relationship between CT value and water equivalent length of Gore-Tex TR membrane after inoculation at C3H mice.
