A review is given for our recent studies on latent track structure formed in Poly(allyl diglycol carbonate), PADC, which has been utilized as the most sensitive etched track detector. To find the peculiar structure to unetchable tracks, we have carried out examinations with protons of which stopping power is faurly lower than that of the detection threshold of 17 eV/nm for PADC. The radiation chemical yield, G value, for loss of CH groups is fairly higher at the lower stopping powers. To estimate the primary effects of high-energy electrons, the thin PADC films were exposed to well collomated 28 MeV electrons, of which deposited energy per unit distance is about 0.03eV/nm. We found the monotonic decrease of ether bonds with the fluence as that observed for protons and heavy ions. On the contrary to this, carbonate ester bonds decreased only above the certain fluence of 1.6×10 15 electrons/㎠, in which the overlapping of electron tracks becomes significant. This indicates that the carbonate ester cam be released following the damage on neighboring ether. Such an observation is well concordant to the layered structure of the latent tracks in PADC for heavy ions.
