We have proposed a new fluorescence-labeling method to detect radiation tracks recorded on silver-salt photographic materials. Fluorescence images of tracks were obtained by converting the developed silver to silver iodide as a mordant by bleaching and selectively adsorbing a fluorescent dye, namely, 3,30-diethyl-2,20-oxacyanine iodide, on it. The dye emitted blue and green fluorescent lights in the adsorbed state to silver iodide. Even tracks masked with fake particles could be recognized clearly in the fluorescence images, because the dye was adsorbed only on silver iodide. This new fluorescence-labeling method will facilitate the development of new technologies for the analysis of radiation tracks on the basis of the color information obtained from the tracks.
